Schmitz Earns First Team All-OCCAC Honors for Second Straight Season
March 19, 2026 - - Lorain County Community College sophomore Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) has been named to the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) First Team All-Conference list for her second straight basketball season after delivering one of the most impressive individual campaigns in program history.
Schmitz capped off a remarkable Commodore career as one of the most decorated players ever to wear the LCCC uniform. She led the OCCAC in points per game (22.5), defensive rebounds (225), and free throws made (161) during the 2025–26 season. She also finished among the conference leaders in several other categories, ranking top five in blocks (29), rebounds per game (9.5), total rebounds (265), free throw percentage (77.4), and field goals made (214).
Over her two seasons with the Commodores, Schmitz rewrote the LCCC record book. She holds or shares numerous school records, including most points in a single game (41), most points in a season (629), and most points in a career (1,154). She also owns program marks for career assists (171) and assists in a single game (12) while setting additional records in field goals, free throws, steals, and three-pointers.
Schmitz's all-around play consistently filled the stat sheet throughout her career. She recorded 18 double-doubles and two triple-doubles, while scoring 30 or more points nine times during her career and scored 20+ points in 29 contests. She was also a constant presence in the lineup, starting 55 of the 56 games she appeared in during her Commodore career.
In addition to her All-OCCAC honors, Schmitz was named OCCAC Player of the Week three times and earned OCCAC All-Academic recognition.
A Sterile Processing major, Schmitz is a 2022 graduate of Firelands High School, where she also scored more than 1,000 career points and was named the Lorain County League's MVP.
Schmitz's success also extended beyond the conference level, as she was named to the NJCAA Region 12 All-Region Team for the second consecutive season.
She was joined on the team by freshman Camrin Lowder (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS), who appeared in all 28 games for the Commodores and started 21 contests. Lowder averaged 2.9 points per game and 1.2 steals per game, recording a career-high 13 points twice and a season-high six steals against Delta College.
