Schmitz Eclipses Career 1000-point Mark in Win Over Clark State College
February 7, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team earned an 88–67 victory over Clark State College on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio.
LCCC led after the first quarter and carried a 39–33 advantage into halftime. The Commodores outscored the Eagles 24–23 in the third quarter to extend their lead before closing the game with a 25–11 fourth quarter. Clark State cut the deficit to single digits in the fourth, but LCCC responded with hot shooting from the outside to create separation and secure the win.
Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) delivered a standout performance with 41 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists, shooting 54 percent from the field (15-of-28) and 60 percent from three-point range (6-of-10). Schmitz surpassed 1,000 career points with a layup in the third quarter.
Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian HS) added 14 points on 42 percent shooting, including four three-pointers, while playing all 40 minutes. Camrin Lowder (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on 56 percent shooting.
BriAnna Slaughter (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) contributed eight points, three assists, and two steals. Chelsey Lantsberry (Wakeman, Ohio/Vermilion HS) recorded 10 rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals. Clara McCown (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) added two points and two assists.
As a team, LCCC shot 40 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range (11-of-30), and 79 percent from the free-throw line while totaling 38 rebounds, 16 assists, and nine steals.
