Commodores Compete at Rocket Arena vs. Kent State Tuscarawas

November 30, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team took the floor at Rocket Arena, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, for a special matchup against Kent State Tuscarawas on Sunday night. Despite a memorable experience and several strong individual performances, the Commodores fell 95–62 to the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore forward Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Fireland HS) once again led LCCC, turning in a standout effort with 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 11-of-14 at the free throw line.

Abi Rhoades (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) delivered another efficient outing off the bench, scoring 9 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc while adding 6 rebounds.  Bri'Anna Slaughter (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) chipped in 6 points, knocking down a pair of threes and pulling down 3 rebounds, while Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian HS) added 6 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist.

Camrin Lowder (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) contributed across the board with 3 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals, and Reina Ramos (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) added 3 points and 5 rebounds.

After going into the second quarter tied 26-26, Kent State Tuscarawas controlled the pace for the rest the night, using a big second and third quarter to build separation.

Still, the night carried meaning well beyond the scoreboard.  The game offered LCCC a chance to compete on a professional stage—an opportunity head coach Brandon Lawler said his players will remember.

"Playing at Rocket Arena was a great experience for our program," said Lawler.  "It was joyful to see players enjoy the Cavs/Celtics game prior to our game together before taking the court themselves. Just a great opportunity for our players to create memories and compete in an environment where the highest level of basketball is played."

The Commodores will look to bounce back as they return home for their next matchup against the Terra State Community College Titans of Wednesday night starting at 5:30 p.m.
