Commodores Hold Off Owens For Big Region Win

February 9, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team earned a hard fought 93–83 victory over Owens Community College at the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium on Monday evening.

The win was the Commodores fourth in their last five contests.  The 10 point win also puts the Commodores in the driver's seat to host the NJCAA DIII Region 12 Championship later this month.  The Commodores must not lose to the Express by more than 10 points in their rematch on Wednesday at Owens to secure home court for the region final.

LCCC shot 53 percent from the field for the game, including 56 percent in the first half, to build a 43–38 halftime lead.  The Commodores led by as many as 16 points in the opening half before Owens responded with a run to trim the deficit to five prior to the break.

In the second half, LCCC extended its advantage to 21 points with 9:44 remaining.  Owens answered with a run of its own and cut the lead to seven in the final minutes, but the Commodores converted free throws and key field goals down the stretch to secure the win.

Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) led LCCC with 28 points on 11-of-21 shooting, adding nine rebounds, six assists, and six steals.  Julian Daniels (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) recorded 20 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-15 shooting.  Jayveon Roe (Euclid, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph HS) posted 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Ike Rowser (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) finished with 14 points and five rebounds.

Aven Kielian (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) added nine points and a game-high eight assists.

The Commodores outrebounded Owens 43–39 and held a 52–36 advantage in points in the paint.  LCCC also forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 29 points, while adding 14 fast-break points.
