Jackson Frame Homers Twice And Tosses Complete Game To Split With Hocking College

May 3, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team split a four-game series with Hocking College over the weekend, showcasing both offensive firepower and late-game resilience. The Commodores battled through a pair of early setbacks before responding with back-to-back victories, including a walk-off win and a strong complete-game performance on the mound by Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan College) to close out the series and secure the split.

 

The Commodores finish the regular season 15-28 under first year Head Coach Jake Solomon.  It is the most wins as a program since the 2018 season where they went 16-21 (played that season as a club team).  The 15 wins nearly doubles their win total from last season's 8-33 mark and is the most wins by a varsity team since the Commodores joined the NJCAA.

 

Game 1 – Hocking 7, LCCC 4

Hocking took control early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding to its lead through the middle innings before LCCC mounted a comeback attempt in the seventh.

 

Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) put LCCC on the board in the second inning with an RBI single that scored Frame.  Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

 

Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School) recorded two hits and drove in a run, while Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City HS) also collected two hits. Jacob Kania (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark HS) added a double and an RBI, and Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) contributed a hit and a walk.

 

Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) and Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) each added a hit, while Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) reached base.

 

LCCC rallied in the seventh inning, beginning with Kania's RBI double.  Grell followed with an RBI single, and Frame reached on an error that allowed another run to score, cutting the deficit to three.

 

On the mound, Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) started and pitched four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) while striking out one.  Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) worked two innings in relief, allowing two runs and striking out two.

 

Game 2 – Hocking 10, LCCC 8

LCCC opened the game with a six-run surge over the first two innings, highlighted by early power and extra-base hits.

 

Soneson put the Commodores on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run that scored Grell.

 

Frame continued the momentum in the second inning with a two-run double. Holtzman followed with an RBI double, and Kent added an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.

 

Frame led the offense, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBIs, and two runs scored.  Soneson added two hits and two RBIs, while Holtzman recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

 

Kent and Gonzalez each collected two hits.  Grell scored twice and reached base multiple times, while Sanders and Kania each contributed a hit.

 

After Hocking rallied to take the lead, LCCC responded in the seventh inning when Frame hit a solo home run.  Later in the inning, Holtzman scored on a double play to bring the Commodores within two runs, but the comeback fell short.

 

On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) started and worked two innings.  Hector Recio (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School) followed in relief, and Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) closed the game with 3.1 innings, allowing one run.

 

Game 3 – LCCC 9, Hocking 8

 

The Commodores jumped out to an early lead in the first inning.  Grell scored on a single by Holtzman, and Lee followed with an RBI single.  Gonzalez later drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0.

 

LCCC added four more runs in the third inning.  Gonzalez brought in a run on a groundout, and Sanders delivered an RBI single. Grell added a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

 

Grell continued his strong performance with a solo home run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 8-6.  He finished with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

 

Sanders recorded two hits and an RBI, while Holtzman and Kent each added two hits.  Gonzalez drove in two runs, and Lee contributed an RBI.

 

After Hocking tied the game in the seventh inning, Kent delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth with a single to left field that scored Soneson.

 

On the mound, Cason Pelko (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) started and worked into the fourth inning.  Terrill and Taylor handled the middle innings before Recio closed the game with a scoreless eighth.

 

Game 4 – LCCC 5, Hocking 4

The Commodores struck early again, as Frame launched a two-run home run in the first inning to give LCCC a 2-0 lead.

 

After Hocking answered with three runs, LCCC responded in the fourth inning. Gonzalez tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Kania brought in another run on a sacrifice bunt.

 

Frame delivered again in the fifth inning with his second home run of the game, a solo shot that proved to be the difference.  Frame finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs.

 

Lee recorded two hits, while Kent added a hit and scored a run.  Sanders also contributed a hit, and Gonzalez added an RBI.

 

On the mound, Frame also earned the win, tossing a complete game with two punch outs and no walks.  He allowed four runs while working through all seven innings to secure the victory.

The Commodores head to postseason play at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, Ohio in the NJCAA Region 12 Tournament.  Times and opponents will be released Monday.
