Sophomores Honored as Commodores Brave The Weather in Weekend Split With Terra State

April 26, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team split a four-game weekend series with NJCAA Region 12 opponent Terra State Community College. 

 

After being shut out in the opener and resuming a suspended game from Friday, the Commodores bounced back with a win in the suspended game and a comeback walk-off victory in Game 3 before dropping a tightly contested finale.

 

LCCC improved to 13-23 overall and 3-5 in Region 12 games.  The 13 wins are their most since the 2018 season when they went 16-21.

 

 

Game 1 – Terra State 10, LCCC 0

LCCC was held scoreless on four hits in the series opener on Friday at Sports Force Park in Sandusky.

 

Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School) led the Commodores with a hit, while Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) recorded a double. Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City HS), Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS), and Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) each added a hit.

 

On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) started and worked four innings. Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) and Hector Recio (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School) provided relief.

 

 

Game 2 – LCCC 5, Terra State 4

The Commodores resumed Game 2 on Sunday at ForeFront Field in Avon and held on for a 5-4 victory.

 

LCCC struck early in the first inning when Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan College) delivered an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS). In the second inning, Leo Soneson added an RBI double to extend the lead.  The game was called in Sandusky on Friday in the third inning and resumed on Sunday in Avon.

 

Holtzman finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Soneson recorded two hits and an RBI.  Frame and Michael Gonzalez each drove in a run, and Carlos Grell added a hit and scored.

 

On the mound, Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned).  Soneson closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings to secure the win for the Commodores.

 

 

Game 3 – LCCC 9, Terra State 8

The Commodores rallied from a six-run deficit to earn a 9-8 comeback victory in Sunday's opener at ForeFront Field.

 

Jackson Frame paced the offense with three hits and an RBI, while Brady Eckert added two hits.  Michael Gonzalez drove in two runs, including the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning.

 

Jacob Sanders contributed an RBI and reached base multiple times, while Daithin Kent and Carlos Grell each drove in a run.  Adam Lee also recorded an RBI.

 

LCCC scored six runs in the sixth inning to erase the early deficit, highlighted by timely walks, a sacrifice fly by Grell, and a sacrifice bunt by Lee.  Gonzalez's walk-off single in the seventh completed the comeback.

 

On the mound, Luke Holtzman started, and Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) earned the win with four innings of relief, allowing one earned run.

 

 

Game 4 – Terra State 3, LCCC 2

The Commodores dropped the series finale despite outhitting Terra State 9-7.

 

Grell led the offense with three hits, including a double, while Kent reached base twice thanks to a couple of singles.  Lee and Soneson each recorded an RBI, accounting for LCCC's scoring.

 

LCCC took an early lead with a run in the first inning and added another in the third, but Terra State tied the game late before pushing across the go-ahead run in the seventh inning.

 

Cason Pelko (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) delivered a strong outing on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing three runs.  Terrill induced a double play on his second pitch in relief to end the seventh inning and keep the Commodores within striking distance.

 

Sophomores Honored:

LCCC recognized four sophomores on Sunday: Jackson Frame, Jacob Sanders, Nick Schuster, and Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS).

 

  • Jadon Tucker - After battling injuries during his freshman season, Jaden returned to appear in 27 career games with just one error this season while hitting .294.  He will continue his academic and baseball career at Miami Middletown College.
  • Nick Schuster - Nick is a Business Management major who made 20 appearances with 15 starts, recording 61 strikeouts over 84.2 innings, including three complete games.
  • Jacob Sanders - Jacob has been the starting second baseman for two seasons, appearing in 72 games with a .670 OPS and 24 stolen bases.
  • Jackson Frame - Has been one of the most consistent hitters in the lineup, batting .341 with a .950 OPS, 60 hits, and 44 RBIs over 70 career games.

The Commodores host the Edison State Community College Chargers this Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at The Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 11 a.m. 

 

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, LCCC will take on Delta College in Sandusky, Ohio at Sports Force Park in their final Region 12 contest of the spring.  First pitch of that doubleheader will be at 5 p.m.
