Three Commodores Earn Double Digit Kills in Win vs. Terra State on Sophomore Night

October 15, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's volleyball team delivered an impressive 3–1 victory over Terra State on Wednesday night inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium, earning the win by scores of 25–20, 25–20, 20–25, and 25–17.

The Commodores were pushed to five sets in their first meeting with the Titans back on September 10. LCCC had to hold off a furious comeback effort to escape Fremont, Ohio, with the win after putting the Titans down 2–0.

Déjà vu began to set in as the Commodores went up 2–0 before Terra State avoided the sweep with a 25–20 win in the third set, capitalizing on six Commodore errors and a .179 hitting percentage.

LCCC regrouped and started the fourth set with a 9–3 rally to force a timeout by the Titans. The Commodores' lead dwindled after that, as Terra State closed the gap to 18–16 before LCCC took control with a 7–1 run to finish the match and pick up their fifth win of the season.

Sophomore Gabriella Habeck (Huron, Ohio/Edison HS) led the Commodores' attack with a dominant performance, totaling 19 kills, a stellar .471 hitting percentage, 2 service aces, and 8 digs. Freshman Sydney Robinson (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) added 15 kills, while freshman Madelyn Peters (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) contributed all over the floor with 10 kills, 19 assists, 5 service aces, and 11 digs.

Freshman setter Jahieda Figueroa (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) dished out 23 assists and adding 3 service aces. Sophomore Ally Rumancik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Olmsted Falls HS) anchored the defense with 21 digs and a team-leading 7 service aces, helping LCCC maintain control throughout the match.

As a team, the Commodores hit an impressive .238, with balanced scoring and strong serving that kept Terra State on its heels.

The win capped a memorable night as LCCC honored its sophomores, Habeck and Gabriella Barrison (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS).
