Strong Start Doesn’t Last For LCCC vs. Edison State

October 9, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's volleyball team battled toe-to-toe with Ohio Community College Athletic Conference leader Edison State Community College on Thursday night inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium, taking the opening set and pushing the Chargers to the brink in a four-set thriller (25-23, 18-25, 26-28, 21-25).

 

The Commodores came out firing in the first set, racing to an early seven-point lead before Edison rallied to tie things at 23-23. Sydney Robinson (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) stopped the Chargers' momentum with a decisive kill, and an Edison attack error sealed the 25-23 win for LCCC.

 

The second set saw the Chargers battle back to even the match, 25-18, before the two teams traded blows in a dramatic third set. LCCC once again took command late, holding a 24-20 advantage, but Edison capitalized on a few late miscues to steal the set in overtime, 28-26. The Commodores continued to fight in the fourth, leading 17-14 midway through and hitting .282, but Edison closed strong to take the match 25-21.

 

Robinson matched her season-high in kills with 17 to go along with 2 aces and 2 block assists. Gabriella Habeck (Huron, Ohio/Edison HS) continued her strong offensive season with 16 kills, 23 digs, and 1 ace, while setter Madelyn Peters (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) recorded 24 assists and 6 kills.

 

Defensively, libero Ally Rumancik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Olmsted Falls HS) turned in another standout performance, tallying 37 digs to keep rallies alive.  Freshman middle blocker Jaleah Wright (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) contributed 3 kills and 4 total blocks, while Gabbie Barrison (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) added 2 block assists and a service ace.

 

As a team, LCCC posted 46 kills, 46 assists, 77 digs, and 8 team blocks, hitting .159 overall.

 

Next Up:

LCCC is back at home on Wednesday, October 15 against Terra State Community College.  LCCC defeated Terra State on September 10 in five sets to pick up their first conference win.
