Commodores Fall In OCCAC Opener Vs. Cuyahoga

September 3, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's volleyball team put together a strong fight on Wednesday evening but came up short in three close sets against Cuyahoga Community College (27-25, 28-26, 25-17) in the opening match of Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.

The Commodores came out with energy in the opening set, going point for point with the Triceratops (3-3) and hitting .344 as a team. They battled back from three down to take a 19-18 lead and force a Cuyahoga timeout. LCCC had victory in sight with a 24-23 edge, but Tri-C scored three of the next four points to steal the set.

The second set played out much like the first. Both teams traded points until LCCC broke a 19-19 tie, prompting another timeout from Tri-C. They inched toward victory again with a 24-21 lead, but the Triceratops rallied late to tie the game and force extra points, eventually prevailing 28-26.

The Commodores leaned heavily on Sydney Robinson (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) and sophomore Gabriella Habeck (Huron, Ohio/Edison HS). Robinson finished with 11 kills, hit .667, and recorded LCCC's only block of the evening. Habeck also tallied 11 kills while adding 18 digs.

Setter Madelyn Peters (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) directed the offense with 16 assists, while also contributing 12 digs and 3 service aces. Jahieda Figueroa (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) also helped in the offensive effort with nine assists of her own. Defensively, Ally Rumancik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Olmsted Falls HS) anchored the back row with a team-high 18 digs.

Despite the final result, LCCC showed resiliency, recording 60 digs as a team and committing only three errors in the first set.
