Gallardo-Santo Domingo and Filice Receive OCCAC Honors
November 15, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College's women's volleyball team earned honors this week as two Commodores were named to the All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference list. Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) and Josie Filice (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) each earned statewide recognition.
Gallardo-Santo Domingo earned All-OCCAC Second Team honors for the second year in a row. She was tops in the conference in digs per set with 7.37, sixth in total digs (435), and seventh in total receptions (364) this season. On September 8, against Owens Community College she set the new LCCC record for most digs in a match with 43 and then broke her own record a month later with 45 digs against Edison State Community College on October 20.
For her career, Gallardo-Santo Domingo averaged 6.37 digs per set and accumulated 737 receptions. Throughout her two-year career, she had 10+ digs in all but one match and in 2022 was named the OCCAC Libero of the Year.
The other sophomore garnering Second Team All-OCCAC honors was Josie Filice. Filice was the main offensive threat for the Commodores this year and was a force among the conference averaging a .258 hitting percentage which was third overall in the conference. She averaged 2.91 kills per set which was good enough for fourth in the OCCAC.
Filice had nine matches during her LCCC career where she had 10+ kills. She matched her career-high in kills with 18 twice in 2023, both coming against Edison State Community College (Aug. 19 and Oct. 20).
The LCCC Commodores went 7-11 overall and 6-6 in the OCCAC in 2023.
