Nilaysia Todd named OCCAC Player of the Week
Nilaysia Todd was awarded her first Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award (September 4-10, 2023) as the freshman had 21 kills for a .202 hitting average over two games last week. Todd got her second double digit kill match of the season (Sept. 2 vs. Hagerstown) versus No. 6 Owens Community College on Friday where she had 13 kills and hit for .167. Defensively, she was a force at the net garnering nine blocks (five solo).
"Ni (Nilaysia) has been working hard ever since she got here," said Ted Whitsel, LCCC's head volleyball coach, now in his 11th season. "With each practice and match, she is getting better and better."
Amongst her peers in the conference, Todd ranks 10th in solo blocks, 5th in total blocks, and 3rd in block assists.
This is the first OCCAC Player of the Week award for the Commodores this season. In 2022, LCCC had two award winners in Riley and Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS/Ashland University). Riley won once (Aug. 29, 2023) and Farris received the award four times in three separate months. (Aug. 22, Sept. 12, Oct. 8 & 24).
