LCCC Volleyball Sweeps Cuyahoga Community College For First Road Win
September 6, 2023 - - The Lorain County Community College women's volleyball team executed (2-5, 2-1) another solid team win against Cuyahoga Community College (1-6, 0-3) Wednesday evening, defeating the Triceratops in three sets (25-23, 25-10, 25-22).

The Commodores built a 14-7 lead only to see the Triceratops climb back and tie the first set at 18-18. After a side out broke the tie, Riley served up two aces to force Cuyahoga into a timeout. Out of the break, the Triceratops scored three straight to knot the contest back up at 21. A kill from Filice and then two from Todd propelled the Commodores to victory, 25-23.
The second set saw the Commodores flex their muscle. After Tri-C opened the scoring with the first point, LCCC rattled off a 22-4 run to take a commanding lead 22-5, eventually winning 25-10 thanks to a set ending kill by Gabbie Barrison (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS). As a team, LCCC hit their best percentage in set two with .171 against just three errors.
In the final set it was the Triceratops who began to show some fight, jumping out to 10-4 lead to force LCCC to call timeout. After a few adjustments, Riley got a block to get the momentum back in the Commodores favor. It led to an Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) kill and a block from Niyanna Flowers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) punctuated by a service ace from Riley to tie the set at 11. Both teams traded points back and forth until the Commodores broke through with the score tied 22-22. Flowers got a kill to force match point and Lexa Bunevich (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) connected for an ace to end the contest, 25-22.
Next Up
LCCC will stay on the road this Friday, September 8, 2023 with a matchup against perennial power Owens Community College who is ranked 6th in the NJCAA Division III with a 5-5 record on the season and a perfect 2-0 mark in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. The Commodores lost all three matches to the Express last season. LCCC nearly defeated Owens at home on October 18, 2022 when they forced a fifth set which Owens won easily 15-6.
