LCCC Volleyball Sweeps Lakeland After 11-Day Layoff

September 8, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team made quick work of the Lakeland Community College Lakers Wednesday evening gathering their third sweep (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) of the season to improve to 4-2 overall and a spotless 2-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.

"We limited unforced errors," said LCCC head coach Ted Whitsel, who secured his 8th straight victory against Lakeland after an 11-day layoff for the volleyball team. "I'm proud of the way we were able to shake off the rust after being off for a week."

Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) shined through again for the Commodores to lead with 15 kills, her third straight match with double-digit kills.  The sophomore also collected five digs, had three services aces, and hit a blistering .583 for the match.

Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS), fresh off last week's OCCAC Player of the Week honor, had team-highs in assists (18) and digs (21).

Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) also helped the offense with 15 assists, while Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had 13 digs, her sixth straight match with 10+ digs.

Lexa Bunevich (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) delivered five services aces for LCCC. Sophomore Madison Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) and Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian School) each recorded seven kills.

The Commodores will return to the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium next week for their first match with Cuyahoga Community College since the 2019 season on September 14, 2022.  The match begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, and LCCC Students with ID: FREE.
