LCCC Volleyball Sweeps Cuyahoga Community College
September 14, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team earned their fourth sweep of the 2022 season, defeating the Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops 25-11, 29-27, and 25-20. It is LCCC's first match against the Tri-C since the 2019 season.
The Commodores cruised to victory in the first game, put together an incredible comeback in the second game--erasing a five-point deficit, 21-16--and kept a surging Triceratops team at bay in the third set to earn their fifth victory of the season and their third Ohio Community College Athletic Conference win to remain a perfect 3-0.
OCCAC Player of the Week Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) led the Commodores in kills with 13 and hit .370 for the match. It is her fourth straight match with 10+ kills and her third consecutive match of hitting .300 or better.
Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) had nine kills and hit for .231, and MJ Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) had seven kills to go along with two digs and one solo block.
Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) and Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) paced the Commodore offense with 20 and 14 assists, respectively. Benware also had 16 digs, while Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had 21 digs to help keep Tri-C from scoring. Shawny Hess (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) also contributed on the defensive side with five blocks, three of them solo.
On Monday, LCCC was voted back into the Top 15 in NJCAA DIII with a No. 14 ranking after receiving votes the previous week.
LCCC will travel to Owens Community College next Wednesday to take on the No. 5 Express in Perrysburg, Ohio. The match begins at 6 p.m.
