No. 15 Commodores Swept by No. 5 Owens CC

September 21, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team suffered their first conference loss in Perrysburg, Ohio, Wednesday evening as the No. 15 Commodores fell to No. 5 Owens Community College (14-7, 4-1) in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-21).

With the loss, LCCC drops to 5-3 and 3-1 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) saw her four-match streak of double-digit kills snapped with nine against the Express. The sophomore also had six digs and three blocks (one solo) while hitting .333.

MJ Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) and Shawny Hess (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) each contributed six kills, while Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had 19 digs, and Brooklyn Ollis (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) also notched double-digit digs with 11. 

Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) and Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) each had 13 assists. Lexa Bunevich (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) had two service aces.

LCCC stays on the road this Friday as the Commodores travel to Springfield, Ohio, to take on the 3-8 Clark State Community College Eagles. The match begins at 6 p.m.
