No. 13 Commodores Escape Cuyahoga CC With 3-2 Victory

September 29, 2022 - - The No. 13 Lorain County Community College volleyball team defeated Cuyahoga Community College in five sets (25-22, 29-27, 23-25, 24-26, 15-10) to improve to 7-4 and 5-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) dominated once again for the Commodores. The sophomore logged 31 kills (season-high) in the contest with a .319 hitting percentage and accumulated eight blocks (three solos) against the Triceratops.  Also scoring double-digit kills was MJ Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) with 14.

Defensively, the Commodores had three players with 20+ digs.  Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) led the way with 41 digs, a season-high for the freshman.  Brooklyn Ollis (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) had 24 digs, including a service ace. At the same time, Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) matched a season-high 21 digs with a team-high 27 assists. Josie Filice (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) and Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) each had ten digs, while Benware also assisted the offensive production with 26 assists.

Lexa Bunevich (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) had four services aces.  Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian), Shawny Hess (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) and Filice each had four blocks, all assists.

The Commodores will return to the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium after 17 days away for a match-up with the Hocking College Hawks on October 1, 2022.  The match begins at 11 a.m.
