Schmitz Named NJCAA DIII All-American Third Team

April 20, 2026 - - Lorain County Community College sophomore Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) added another honor to her historic career after being named an NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball All-American Third Team selection for the first time.

Schmitz capped off one of the most decorated careers in program history during the 2025–26 season. She led the OCCAC in points per game (22.5), defensive rebounds (225), and free throws made (161), while also finishing among the conference leaders in rebounds, blocks, field goals made, and free throw percentage.

Over two seasons with the Commodores, Schmitz rewrote the LCCC record book. She finished her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,154 points and also set school records in assists, field goals, free throws, steals, and three-pointers.

Schmitz recorded 18 double-doubles and two triple-doubles during her career while scoring 20 or more points in 29 games. She also earned OCCAC First Team All-Conference honors in back-to-back seasons and was named to the NJCAA Region 12 All-Region Team twice.

A Sterile Processing major, Schmitz started 55 of 56 career games for the Commodores and became one of the top players in NJCAA Division III basketball during her time at LCCC.
