Commodores Fade Late Against Kent State Tuscarawas

December 16, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team fell 78–61 on the road to Kent State Tuscarawas on Tuesday evening, with the game remaining within reach late in the fourth quarter.

 

LCCC (1-11) was led by Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS), who turned in a solid performance before going down with an injury in the fourth quarter.  She scored 36 points on 14-of-27 shooting, including four three-pointers, while also pulling down 10 rebounds and handing out four assists.  Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian HS) added 12 points, connecting on four three-pointers, and Clara McCown (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) recorded seven points and 11 rebounds to lead the Commodores on the glass.

 

The Commodores trailed 58–51 entering the fourth quarter but mounted a late push, using an 8–2 run to cut the deficit to three points at 62–59.  Kent State (8-2) responded with a 16–2 run to close the contest.
