Commodores Fall In Overtime Against Alpena College

November 1, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team dropped a 69–61 overtime decision to Alpena Community College on Saturday morning at the Terrace Bay Hotel Tip-Off Classic. Turnovers in the final minutes of overtime proved costly for the Commodores, who fell to 0–2 on the season.

After trailing early, LCCC rallied in the fourth quarter behind a strong push from its sophomore leaders. Abbey Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 43–43 with seven minutes remaining, and Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian HS) found Nevaeh Berrios (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) on consecutive possessions to give the Commodores a four-point lead with just over five minutes to play.

LCCC continued to battle, answering Alpena's baskets with timely shots. Meng fed Clara McCown (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) for a key layup in the final seconds to regain a one-point lead, but Alpena tied the game at the free-throw line to force overtime. The Commodores had a chance to win in regulation, but their final shot at the buzzer came up short.

In the extra period, LCCC went cold from the field, committing three turnovers and shooting just 2-of-13 as Alpena outscored them 14–6 to close out the game.

Schmitz led all scorers with 24 points, including three three-pointers, while adding seven rebounds and three assists. McCown posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Meng finished with 10 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Berrios contributed nine points, all from beyond the arc.
