Commodores Shake Previous Night’s Loss, Hold Off Jamestown Jayhawks, 82-77
November 19, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team shook off the previous night's last minute loss to Wayne County CC and bounced back to defeat Jamestown Community College, 82-77.
The Commodores were backed by the stellar scoring of Lem Payne (Philadelphia, Pa./Mount Pleasant HS) who had another complete game dropping 20 points with four rebounds, three assists, four steals, and one block.
Three other Commodores scored in double figures: Traevon Fann (Garfield Height, Ohio/James Madison HS) had 12 points and four rebounds. Jason Becka (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS), inserted into the starting lineup for Bennett Sulen (Avon, Ohio/St. Edward HS) who suffered a broken wrist against Wayne County, scored 11, and Luqman Lateef (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw HS) scored ten and had six rebounds.
Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, had three assists and two steals. Casey Kelley (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) had a team-high six assists.
LCCC went into the half trailing by four points after shooting 37% from the field. They came out shooting 47% in the second half and forced 17 turnovers in the game against the Jayhawks.
Defense was the key for the Commodores down the stretch. After Payne scored to give LCCC the lead 65-64 with 8:16 left, him and Quante May (Cleveland, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) scored blocks on back-to-back possessions as LCCC never trailed from then on.
The Commodores are off until after the holiday where they will travel to Bryant & Stratton College on Nov. 30, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
