Commodores Close Out 2022 With Win Over Schoolcraft College
December 30, 2022 - - Lorain County Community College men's basketball picked up a much needed win to close out 2022, defeating the Schoolcraft College Ocelots 74-61 in Detroit on the campus of Wayne County Community College.
The win was a welcome sight as the Commodores (5-9) snapped an eight-game losing streak that dated back to November 19. Getting it done for LCCC was four players scoring in double figures starting with Jason Becka (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) having 17 points and three assists.
LCCC went into the break trailing by four, 30-26, but got hot in the opening minutes of the second half. Aiding Becka was Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS) who dropped 10 points with three connections from downtown and three blocks on the defensive end, all of which coming in the second half.
By the halfway mark of the second half, the Commodores held a 7-point lead and never looked back.
LCCC dished out 23 assists as a team with Casey Kelley (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) and Quante May (Cleveland, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) recording six each. Kelley had 13 points and a steal. May had a team-high 13 rebounds which included four offensive boards.
LCCC will travel to Hamilton, Ohio on January 5, 2023 to take on the Harriers of Miami University-Hamilton.
