#CommodoreEsports Week 5 Recap

October 27, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College Esports teams continued their strong midseason push with another successful week of NJCAAE competition, earning victories across multiple titles and divisions in the fifth week of competition.

 

The Commodores' Division III squads dominated in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Crew Battle, Valorant, and Marvel Rivals, while standout performances in Division I and II Smash play and Chess added to an impressive all-around showing.

 

Division III

The Commodores' Division III teams delivered one of their most successful weeks of the season.  In Marvel Rivals, the lineup of Caleb Rodriguez (Lorain, Ohio/East River HS), Caleb Tutor (Elyria, Ohio/Open Door Christian), Anthony Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Graduation Alliance), Tim Yost (Vermilion, Ohio/JVS), Jacob Joy (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Open Door Christian), and Yariel De Jesus (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) swept Forsyth Technical Community College, 3–0, for their second win of the season.

 

The Commodores' Jacob Kyer (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone HS) also saw success on the strategy board in Chess Division III, where he extended his winning streak with a 1–0 victory over Zachariah Perkins of Northwest College.  He has won five straight matches after starting the season 1-3.

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Division III featured another strong outing from Jerron Warner (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS), who went undefeated on the week with a trio of wins — 3–1 over Danville Area's Jase Miller, 3–0 against Three Rivers' Justin Murphy, and 3–0 versus Navarro's Collin Cook.  Austin Lukachko (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) posted a 2–1 record, highlighted by wins over Marshalltown's Tucker Wedgwood (3–0) and Iowa Central's Finnegan Noel (3–1). Anthony Moore added a straight-set victory (3–0) against Bethany Duncan of Northwest College.

 

The Hearthstone duo of Veronica Gibson (Sandusky, Ohio/Trinity HS) and Xander Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Huron HS) continued to battle through a full slate of matches.  Gibson earned two wins, defeating Taylor (3–1) and Kenna Hitzemann of Des Moines Area (3–0), while Taylor responded with wins over Gibson (3–1) and Amanda Martin of Salt Lake Community College (3–0).  Taylor and Gibson split a pair of matches against each other.

 

In Valorant, the team of Lukachko, Brody Taylor (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Tyler Misconish (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS), Braylon Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), and Kylie Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) remained unbeaten at 6–0, defeating St. Charles Community College 2–1.  Taylor sealed the series in style, recording an ACE to close out Game 3.

 

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Crew Battles, Warner, Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Christopher Gonet (Lorain, Ohio/LCCC Early College) swept Seminole State College and Lake Region State College, then edged SUNY Onondaga Community College 2–1 to move to 8–2 on the fall season.

 

Rounding out the week, Collin Zielinski (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted HS) competed in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, coming up short against Southwestern Community College's Will Crisp, 4–0.

 

Divisions I and II

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Division I, Warner split his matches to improve to 7-3 on the year.  He defeated John Paredes (Guilford Technical Community College) and Camren Mitchell (Bryant & Stratton College–Virginia Beach) by identical 3–0 scores, improving his overall record to 7–3 on the year. 

 

In Division II action, Lukachko split his matches, falling 3–1 to Logan Lovergine (Northwest Florida State College) before picking up a forfeit win against James Durnin (Catawba Valley Community College). Traceton Bell (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) also finished 1–1, earning a 3–0 win over Liam Rodstrom (Northwest Florida State College) after a 3–1 setback to Beni Morrow (USC Sumter).

 

In Rainbow Six Siege Division I, the team of Kyer, Noah Duncan (Walnut Grove, N.C./North Ridgeville HS), Cody Adkins (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS), Anthony Moore, and Lucas Hurley (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone HS) fell 2–0 to Bevill State Community College.
