Week 2 Commodore Esports Recap

October 5, 2025 - -  The Lorain County Community College Esports program continued its impressive fall season this past week, competing across multiple NJCAAE divisions and titles from Valorant and Rainbow Six Siege to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel Rivals.

 

Division III Competition

In another successful week for LCCC Esports, the Commodores shined across multiple Division III titles, notching key victories in Marvel Rivals, Call of Duty: Gunfight, Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Super Smash Bros. Crew Battle.

 

Marvel Rivals (6v6)

The Commodores opened their Marvel Rivals season with Caleb Rodriguez (Lorain, Ohio/East River HS), Caleb Tutor (Elyria, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS), Anthony Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Graduation Alliance HS), Tim Yost (Vermilion, Ohio/Firelands/JVS), Jacob Joy (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS), and Yariel De Jesus (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) getting their first win of the season against Herkimer Community College in a 3-0 sweep.

 

Chess (1v1)

It was a tough week on the chessboard for the Commodores.  Jacob Kyer (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone HS) fell to Crowder College's Justin England, while Tremon Banks (Greensboro, Ala./Greensboro HS) also dropped his match to England. Kyer also lost to Wyatt Bryant from Kishwaukee College.

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1v1)

LCCC continued to show strong depth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.  Jerron Warner (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) was unstoppable, going 3-0 on the week with clean sweeps over Jacksonville College, Wake Technical CC, and Alvin CC — all 3-0 victories.  Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) impressed as well, going 3-0 with consecutive sweeps over Bergen CC, Northwest College, and Wake Technical CC.  Traceton Bell (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) secured a strong 3-1 victory against Alvin CC, while Austin Lukachko (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) battled in two tight sets, narrowly falling in both to Wake Tech and Seward County.

 

Hearthstone (1v1)

It was an all-LCCC battle this week as Veronica Gibson (Sandusky, Ohio/Trinity HS) faced off with Xander Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Huron HS).  Gibson took the series 3-2 and 3-1, then went on to defeat Finger Lakes CC's Asa McKaig 3-2, completing a perfect 3-0 week.

 

Madden (1v1)

Brandon Ross (Elyria, Ohio/LCCC Early College HS) picked up a win with a 2-0 sweep of Logan Bailey from Clovis Community College.  Toby Gibson (Sandusky, Ohio/St. Mary's HS) had a BYE and lost to Monroe CC.

 

Call of Duty: Gunfight (2v2)

After a tough start to the season, Baron Jones (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) and Gwen King (Elyria, Ohio/Oberlin HS) rebounded in dominant fashion, going 2-0 on the week. The duo defeated Des Moines Area CC and Eastern Arizona College, both by a 3-1 scoreline

 

Valorant (5v5)

Austin Lukachko (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Broderick Taylor (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Tyler Misconish (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS), Braylon Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), and Kylie Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) continued their hot start in Valorant, making it 2-0 on the season after sweeping Monroe Community College 2-0.

 

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Crew Battle

The trio of Jerron Warner (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS), Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Christopher Gonet (Lorain, Ohio/LCCC Early College HS) stayed perfect in Crew Battle play, defeating Herkimer Community College 2-1 before picking up a forfeit victory.  They improved to 4-0 on the year.

 

Top Performers of the Week (Division III):

  • Jerron Warner (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) – 3-0 in Smash Ultimate 1v1, 2-0 in Crew Battle
  • Veronica Gibson (Sandusky, Ohio/Trinity HS) – 3-0 in Hearthstone
  • Valorant Team (Lukachko, Taylor, Misconish, Zeman, Zeman) – 2-0 sweep
  • Call of Duty: Gunfight Duo (Jones, King) – 2-0 week

 

Division I & II Competition

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Division I

Jerron Warner (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) continued to perform at a high level against elite competition. He dropped a narrow 3-2 battle to East Georgia State's Mauricio Martinez-Matias before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory over Jeremiah Albrechta from Terra State Community College. Warner improves to 3-1 overall in D1 play.

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Division II

It was a challenging week in Division II competition.  Austin Lukachko (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) fell to Northwest Florida State College's Xavier Pugh 3-0, but bounced back to win his second match against SUNY Onondaga's Jaylen Odamtten in a 3-0 sweep. Traceton Bell (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin HS) fought through two tough matches, falling to SUNY Onondaga's Quinnton Storino 3-1 and to Danville Area's Tyler Mahoney 3-0.

 

Rainbow Six Siege – Division I

The Commodores (1-2) dropped a close 2-1 series to Iowa Western Community College after taking an early lead. The lineup of Jacob Kyer (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone HS), Noah Duncan (Walnut Cove, N.C./North Ridgeville HS), Anthony Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Graduation Alliance HS), Baron Jones (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS), and Lucas Hurley (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone HS) showed improvement from their Week 1 matchup against Lackawanna.
