Cabrera Places In Top 6 in Tier 2 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
April 18, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College Esports team put forth a strong effort this week during NJCAAE Playoff competition across multiple titles.
Mario Kart 8 – Tiers 2 & 3
Action continued on Thursday with James O'Reilly (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) competing in the Tier 2 Mario Kart Playoffs. After dropping his first match 4-1 to Marshalltown Community College, O'Reilly bounced back in the elimination bracket with a dominant 4-1 win over Bates Technical College. He faced a different competitor from Marshalltown in the next round, where he was ultimately eliminated in a 4-0 sweep.
In Tier 3 action, Collin Zielinski (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted HS) faced off against Finger Lakes Community College in a tightly contested single-elimination match. Zielinski came up just short, falling 4-3 in a hard-fought match.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Tier 2
On Friday, Colby Cabrera (Goodgame) represented LCCC in the Tier 2 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the Elimination Bracket after he stayed alive with a win on Tuesday. Cabrera opened strong, defeating Madison College 3-1. In the next round, he battled in a close match against Hinds Community College, but was edged out 3-2 to conclude his playoff run. He finishes in the Top 6 of the Tier 2 tournament, a new career-best.
Call of Duty: Warzone – Tier 3 Playoffs
The Warzone squad of Gwen King (Elyria, Ohio/Oberlin HS), Andrew Wies (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS), and Gavin Medina (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) teamed up for the Tier 3 2v2 single-elimination tournament. Despite a determined showing and winning in the first round, the trio fell in four rounds to a strong Clark State College team.
