Spring Matches Continue for Esports As Rogers and Cabrera Stay Undefeated In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 1v1

March 18, 2025 - -  The Lorain County Community College Esports team continued their regular season on Tuesday night with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 1v1 matches across all tiers in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports spring season.

Robert Rogers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) continued their dominance with victories to keep their perfect seasons alive. Rogers has yet to lose a single round (30-0) in Tier 1 play after winning against Kishwaukee College and then picking up a forfeit win against Mott Community College. His 30 straight victories match the record set by teammate Cabrera during the fall of 2024 and improve his record to 10-0 in match play in Tier 1.

Cabrera also stayed perfect on Tuesday, defeating Northwest Florida State College in six rounds and improving to 4-0 in Tier 2 play.

Caleb Rodriguez (Lorain, Ohio/East River High School) picked up his first win of the spring with a 4-0 victory against Lake Region State College.

In the game Hearthstone, Xander Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Huron HS) picked up two 3-0 sweeps, the first against the University of South Carolina Lancaster and then against Heartland Community College, to improve to 3-2 in Tier 3 open series play.
