Baseball Falls to Cuyahoga Community College

April 23, 2026 – The Lorain County Community College baseball team dropped both ends of a midweek doubleheader against Cuyahoga Community College on April 21. The Commodores built early leads in both contests, but a pivotal third inning in game one and a late offensive surge in game two allowed the Triceratops to pull away for the sweep.

Game 1 – Cuyahoga CC 11, LCCC 4

LCCC opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) that plated Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School) and Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS). The Commodores added to their lead in the second inning when Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) connected on a solo home run to make it 4-2.

Cuyahoga Community College answered with two runs in the second inning to tie the game before taking control in the third inning.

LCCC finished with seven hits in the contest. Grell and Holtzman each recorded two hits, while Soneson drove in three runs. Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) and Grell each added stolen bases.

Game 2 – Cuyahoga CC 15, LCCC 5

The Commodores again started fast, scoring two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Holtzman. LCCC extended its lead in the second inning, as Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City HS) delivered an RBI single and Soneson followed with an RBI single to make it 4-2.

Cuyahoga responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-4 lead. LCCC evened the score in the fifth inning when Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) scored on a catcher error, tying the game at 5-5.

The game remained tied through five innings before Cuyahoga broke it open with a 10-run sixth inning.

LCCC totaled 10 hits in game two, with Lee and Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan College) each collecting two hits. Holtzman drove in two runs, while Kent and Soneson each added an RBI.
