April 12, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader against Kent State Tuscarawas at The Pipe Yard, using a dramatic comeback in game one and a steady all-around performance in game two. The Commodores erased a six-run deficit in the opener, highlighted by a walk-off home run from Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS), and carried that momentum into the second game to complete the sweep. With the victories, LCCC surpassed last season's win total and reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2019.
Game One – LCCC 12, Kent State Tuscarawas 10
The Commodores staged an impressive comeback, rallying from a 10-4 deficit to earn a 12-10 walk-off victory.
Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) led the offense with three hits, including two triples, and scored twice. Leo Soneson delivered the biggest moment of the game, finishing with two hits and three RBIs, including a walk-off two-run home run to left-center in the seventh inning to cap the comeback.
Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) had a standout performance with two hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) added two hits and scored twice, while Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS) contributed two hits and a run scored.
Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) chipped in with two hits and an RBI, and Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) drove in two runs.
After falling behind following an eight-run fourth inning by Kent State Tuscarawas, the Commodores responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the deficit. Gonzalez tied the game in the sixth on a Tuscarawas error before Soneson's walk-off blast completed the comeback.
On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) struck out six over 3.2 innings. Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) earned the win with 3.1 innings of relief, adding one strikeout.
Game Two – LCCC 5, Kent State Tuscarawas 2
The Commodores carried their momentum into game two, taking control early and never relinquishing the lead.
LCCC struck first in the opening inning and added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win.
Eckert led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Gonzalez added two hits and scored a run. Frame recorded a hit, and Sanders and Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School HS) each drove in a run.
Soneson also scored a run and contributed defensively, while Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) added an RBI.
On the mound, Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) followed with 2.0 innings and one strikeout, and Soneson closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.
