Soneson’s 3-Run Blast and Coughlin’s Complete Game Splits DH vs. Bryant & Stratton

April 8, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team split a doubleheader at Bryant & Stratton College Wednesday afternoon.  The Commodores dropped the opener in five innings but responded in game two with a strong all-around performance, highlighted by a complete game from Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) and a go-ahead three-run home run from Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS).

 

Game One – Bryant & Stratton 14, LCCC 4 (5 innings)

The Commodores jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second.  But it was all Bryant & Stratton from there as they scored 14 unanswered run to end the game after five innings.

 

Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) led the offense with two hits and two runs scored.  Soneson had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) and Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS) each drove in a run, while Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

 

On the mound, Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) pitched 3.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts.  Cason Pelko (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) added 1.1 innings in relief with one strikeout.

 

Game Two – LCCC 7, Bryant & Stratton 3

The Commodores bounced back in game two behind a strong pitching performance and timely hitting.

 

Coughlin delivered a complete game, going 7.0 innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.

 

Offensively, LCCC broke the game open in the fourth inning.  After taking an early run in the first, the Commodores plated five runs in the fourth, highlighted by Soneson's three-run home run that gave LCCC the lead for good.

 

Soneson finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Lee added an RBI.  Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School HS) contributed a hit and an RBI, and Frame also drove in a run.

 

Gonzalez and Jacob Kania (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark HS) each recorded hits, while Tucker scored twice and applied pressure on the bases throughout the game.

 

Next Up

The Commodores return to action on Saturday, April 11, 2026, when they travel to Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a doubleheader against the Wolfpack. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
