Commodores Swept By Miami Middleton in Weekend Doubleheader
April 5, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Miami Middletown on Saturday, April 4, 2026 in Lebanon, Ohio. Despite the final scores, the Commodores showed flashes offensively with multiple extra-base hits and home run production across the two games.
Game One – Miami Middletown 12, LCCC 8
LCCC opened the day with a strong offensive performance, collecting 14 hits in the contest but an eight run inning from the Thunderhawks put the Commodores down early.
Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) led the way with a 3-for-4 effort and scored three runs. Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) added two hits and an RBI, while Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) drove in three runs on a pair of hits.
Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS), Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS), and Jacob Kania (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark HS) each connected on home runs, accounting for four of the Commodores' eight runs. Holtzman finished with two RBIs, while Gonzalez and Kania each added one.
Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) and Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS) also contributed hits in the effort.
On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) worked 5.0 innings and recorded four strikeouts. Cason Pelko (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) added a scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout.
Game Two – Miami Middletown 10, LCCC 2
In the second game, the Commodores again showed power at the plate but got down early, allowing five runs over the first two innings before getting on the board in the fourth.
Tucker and Kania each had a solo shot to account for both LCCC runs. Holtzman had two hits while Gonzalez and Soneson each added a hit.
On the mound, Pelko started and struck out one over 2.0 innings. Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) followed with 3.2 innings and one strikeout, while Brayan Pilier (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School HS) recorded an out in relief.

The Commodores were originally scheduled to host Delta College on Tuesday at ForeFront Field, but that game has been postponed due to cold temperatures.
LCCC returns to action on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, traveling to take on Bryant & Stratton College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
