Commodores Can’t Hold Early Lead at Kent State Tuscarawas
April 3, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team jumped out to an early lead but could not hold on, falling 8-5 to Kent State Tuscarawas on Thursday.
LCCC capitalized on early opportunities to take a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS), Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS), and Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City HS) all came around to score as the Commodores took advantage of a passed ball, a wild pitch, and a defensive error.
The Commodores added single runs in the sixth and ninth innings. Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) scored on another passed ball in the sixth, while Carlos Grell (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School HS) crossed the plate in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS).
LCCC was limited to four hits in the contest, with Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS), Lee, Tucker, and Grell each recording one. The Commodores remained aggressive on the bases, tallying four stolen bases from Sanders, Gonzalez, Eckert, and Tucker.
On the mound, Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) started and pitched 2.2 innings with five strikeouts. Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) followed with 2.1 innings and four strikeouts. Hector Recio (Cleveland, Ohio/Garrett Morgan School HS) worked 1.0 inning, while Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) closed the game with 2.0 innings pitched.
Kent State Tuscarawas answered with three runs in the third inning and continued to build momentum with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take control of the game.
