March 31, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team earned one win in a four-game series with the Lakeland Community College Lakers over the weekend. The Commodores were swept by the Lakers on Sunday at ForeFront Field and split their doubleheader against Lakeland on Monday in Kirtland, Ohio.
Game One (Sunday) – Lakeland 13, LCCC 2
LCCC team dropped the opener of Sunday's doubleheader, falling 13-2 to Lakeland Community College at ForeFront Field.
LCCC got on the board early in the first inning when Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) drove in a run, and added another in the second as Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) came around to score. However, the Commodores were limited to just two hits in the contest after Lakeland took control in the first inning with four runs.
Frame and James Sikora (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) accounted for LCCC's only hits, while the team drew two walks.
On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) started and went 3.2 innings and struck out four. Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside HS) provided 3.1 innings of relief and had one strikeout.
Lakeland broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning and added two more in the seventh to secure the win.
Game Two (Sunday) – Lakeland 3, LCCC 1
The Commodores were edged in a low-scoring second game on Sunday, falling 3-1 in game two.
LCCC managed just two hits in the contest but stayed within striking distance behind a strong pitching performance from Alex Sayers (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone HS). Sayers went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out four.
Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) scored the lone run for LCCC in the third when he was driven in by Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) who singled to right field and recorded the team's only RBI. Holtzman and Soneson each had one hit in the game.
Lakeland broke a 1-1 tie with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take control and the Commodores were held hitless over the final four innings.
Game One (Monday) – Lakeland 13, LCCC 2
LCCC opened Monday's doubleheader with a 13-2 loss at Lakeland.
The Commodores collected four hits in the contest, led by Jadon Tucker (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Madison HS), who went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles. Frame and Lee also recorded hits.
LCCC scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, with Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) driving in both runs on sacrifice flies.
On the mound, Holtzman started and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out six.
Game Two (Monday) – LCCC 12, Lakeland 5
The Commodores salvaged the series finale with a 12-5 victory.
LCCC scored in five different innings and finished with nine hits, highlighted by home runs from Soneson and Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS).
Gonzalez led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Soneson added two hits and three RBIs, while Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) drove in two runs and scored twice. Holtzman and Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) also contributed RBIs.
On the mound, Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) earned the win, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out six. Taylor closed the game with 2.2 innings of relief, giving up one run and striking out two.
After Lakeland scored four runs in the fifth to cut into the lead, LCCC responded with insurance runs in the sixth and a three-run seventh inning to secure the victory.
