March 22, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team won three out of four games against the Penn State Shenango Lions over the weekend, splitting a doubleheader on the road Saturday before returning home to sweep the Lions at ForeFront Field on Sunday.
It marks the first series win for first-year head coach Jacob Solomon and the program's first series victory since the 2022 season.
Game One (Saturday) – LCCC 8, Penn State Shenango 3
LCCC opened the series with an 8-3 win, using a five-run eighth inning to pull away in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
LCCC took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) drove in Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) on a sacrifice fly. Shenango answered with runs in the first, third, and seventh innings to tie the game at 3-3 after Frame and Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) scored in the sixth to give LCCC the late advantage. With two runners on in the seventh, Shenango double home a run and would have won the game in not for Brady Eckert's (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) tag on the trailing runner to preserve the tie.
In extras, Frame delivered an RBI single to score Adam Lee (Englewood, Fla./Charlotte HS) before Dylan Coughlin's (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) two-run single brought home Soneson and Frame. Eckert later scored on a wild pitch, and Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall HS) added an RBI single to cap the five-run frame.
Frame led LCCC at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Coughlin added two hits and two RBIs, while Eckert also drove in two runs. Gonzalez contributed with a hit and an RBI.
On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) earned the win with 7.0 innings of work, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with four walks. Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) closed the game with a scoreless eighth inning.
