Commodores Go 1-3 Against Clark State Over Weekend Series

March 15, 2026 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team was able to get one win in a four-game series with Clark State College over the weekend.  The Commodores dropped the opener 3-1 before earning a 7-6 win in Saturday's doubleheader in West Jefferson, Ohio.  Clark State then swept Sunday's doubleheader at ForeFront Field in Avon, defeating LCCC 6-2 and 13-3.

 

Saturday, Game One Recap

Clark State took the first game of the series Saturday, scoring two runs in the opening inning and adding another in the third to secure a 3-1 victory.

 

The Commodores were limited to four hits in the contest but threatened late with the bases-loaded.  Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS) drove in LCCC's lone run in the seventh, a single to right field that scored Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) who began the inning with a walk.  Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS), Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS), and Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) also recorded hits in the contest.

 

On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) delivered a solid outing, pitching six innings while allowing four hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts.

 

Saturday, Game Two Recap

LCCC responded with a 7-6 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Commodores scored six runs over the second and third innings to take the lead.

 

Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall) put the Commodores on the board in the second with a double that scored Soneson and Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS).  Gonzalez doubled again in the third to score Frame.  Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS) and Soneson each drove in a run in the third inning as well, while Frame scored twice and reached base three times.

 

On the mound, Coughlin worked five innings while allowing four runs, two earned. Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) added an inning of relief, and Soneson closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win and pick up his second save of the season.

 

Sunday, Game One Recap

The Eagles took the opener of Sunday's doubleheader 6-2 at ForeFront Field as they collected 10 hits in the contest while limiting the Commodores to five.

 

Frame accounted for both LCCC runs with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.  Sanders and Adam Lee (Homestead, Fla./Charlotte HS) each added a hit for the Commodores.

 

Alex Sayers (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) pitched a complete game for LCCC, allowing eight hits and striking out three batters.

 

Sunday, Game Two Recap

Clark State completed the weekend sweep of Sunday's games with a 13-3 win in the series finale.

 

Sanders led the Commodores offensively with two hits and an RBI, while Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City HS) added two doubles and drove in a run.  Lee also recorded an RBI in the contest.
