Wolfpack Take Two from Commodores on Opening Day

March 1, 2026  - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team dropped both games of a Saturday road doubleheader at Westmoreland County Community College, falling 16-6 in the opener and 11-3 in Game 2 in their first taste of action in the 2026 season after losing four games last weekend to weather.  The Commodores totaled 10 hits and nine runs on the day while drawing 11 walks.

 

 

Game 1 – Westmoreland County CC 16, LCCC 6

 

LCCC produced six runs on eight hits in the opener but could not overcome a nine-run third inning by Westmoreland.

 

Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) paced the offense with a 2-for-4 performance.  Michael Gonzalez (Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall) went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, tying the game in the second inning with an RBI single that brought home Adam Lee (Homestead, Fla./Charlotte).  Lee finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, while Brady Eckert (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) added a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

 

Trailing after the third, the Commodores responded with four runs in the fourth inning.  Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan) scored on Eckert's RBI single before Leo Soneson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and Lee crossed the plate on a passed ball and wild pitch.  Eckert later scored on a single by Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele), who drove in two runs and added a sacrifice fly.

 

Gonzalez scored LCCC's final run on Coughlin's sac fly in the sixth.

 

On the mound, Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) started and threw 2.1 innings.  Alex Sayers (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) struck out four over 2.2 innings of relief, and Ethan Taylor (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) worked 0.2 innings.

 

 

Game 2 – Westmoreland County CC 11, LCCC 3

 

The Commodores jumped out to a 3-0 lead but were limited to two hits as Westmoreland scored the game's final 11 runs.

 

Cason Pelko (Grafton, Ohio/Midview) and Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) scored in the third inning on Westmoreland miscues.  Daithin Kent (Union City, Pa./Union City) delivered LCCC's lone RBI with a single in the fourth that plated Adam Lee (Homestead, Fla./Charlotte).

 

Gonzalez recorded the other LCCC hit, finishing 1-for-3. Sanders drew three walks and scored once, while Lee walked twice, stole two bases and scored a run.

 

Luke Holtzman (Avon, Ohio/Avon) led the pitching staff with 3.2 innings, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.  Dylan Coughlin (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele) struck out two in one inning, and Zack Terrill (Lorain, Ohio/Brookside) closed with 1.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
