LCCC Hires Jake Solomon as New Head Coach for Commodore Baseball

July 31, 2025 - - Lorain County Community College has hired Jake Solomon as the new Head Baseball Coach of the Commodores baseball program. Solomon brings more than a decade of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels and has a strong record of player development, program leadership, and championship success.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Jake Solomon to Lorain County Community College as the new head coach of our baseball program," said LCCC Athletic Director Eric Lahetta.

Solomon joins LCCC after serving as Assistant Coach at Cuyahoga Community College, where he helped the Triceratops to back-to-back OCCAC Championships in 2024 and 2025. Last season's team finished with an outstanding 44-8 overall record, aided by a 41-game winning streak during a season that saw them making it to the National Junior College Athletic Association DII Region 12 Final.

"This position drew tremendous interest, and it was exciting to see the search unfold," said Lahetta. "Coach Solomon's successful tenure as the lead assistant at OCCAC powerhouse Cuyahoga Community College immediately caught our attention. His local roots are an added bonus and will be a tremendous asset in recruiting."

Under Solomon's guidance as hitting, strength and conditioning coordinator at Tri-C, the team led the NJCAA Division II in batting average (.366), on-base percentage (.508), and stolen bases (225). The team also ranked in the top ten nationally in several other offensive categories, including slugging percentage and total runs. During his tenure with Tri-C, 10 players went on to receive NCAA Division I offers.

Solomon brings coaching experience at every level of high school baseball, including roles as Head Coach at Cuyahoga Heights High School and Associate Head Coach and Program Hitting Coordinator at St. Edward High School in Lakewood. At Cuyahoga Heights, he was hired at just 24 years old—then the youngest active varsity head baseball coach in Ohio—and led the program to its fifth-best winning percentage in school history and a top-ten state ranking in Division IV. His teams have consistently developed all-conference and All-Ohio talent.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity to serve our student athletes at LCCC," said Solomon. "I want to thank Eric Lahetta and the rest of the administration for believing in my vision and ability to lead our baseball program."

"Anyone from our area involved in baseball knows and sees how many special student-athletes there are, especially within Lorain County," said Solomon. "We will do our best to bring a sense of excitement and pride with being part of the Commodore baseball program, and to Lorain County baseball as a whole."

"The search committee was focused on finding a coach who could build a winning culture, emphasize player development, lead a strength and conditioning program, and help our student-athletes advance to four-year baseball opportunities," said Lahetta. "I truly believe we've found the perfect fit to lead LCCC baseball into an exciting and successful future. "
